ARCHER DEFTERIOS:
UNDER MARBLE

JUNE 5-8 2025
LOS ANGELES, CA

ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONExpanding on Defterios’ ongoing exploration of color, light, and texture, Under Marble examines the tension between surface and depth. Through a layered, iterative approach to painting, Defterios invites the viewer to look beyond the immediate, much like uncovering what lies beneath marble.

Suspended from the center of the gallery, four monochromatic paintings expose their vibrantly stained backs, revealing structural elements that are typically concealed. This presentation highlights both process and materiality, exposing the earliest, unseen layers within each work. Alongside these, larger compositions hang with paintings from Defterios’ Blue Compositions series. Together, the exhibited works incorporate palettes drawn from the natural world.

Archer Defterios (b. 2000) is a Greek-American artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Self-taught in painting, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from the University of Southern California Roski School of Art and Design. During his studies, his interest in the relationships between color, light, and texture developed. Working independently in his studio located in Hollywood’s Gallery District, he has cultivated a growing network of collectors, with works in private collections worldwide.
